Don’t violate the privacy of others
You’ve probably
received email from friends that they received and forwarded to
you. These are usually poems, stories, prayers, hoaxes, or
simply ‘pass it on’ chain letter type emails. While many people
do enjoy these types of activities, and like to participate,
even more people hate receiving these emails. First, before
forwarding mail of this type, check with your friends to ensure
that they want to receive it. For those that do wish to receive
it, make sure that you use the ‘BCC’ (blind carbon copy) feature
of your email program to forward to the people on your list.
Otherwise, you are showing everyone’s email address to everyone
else on your list. Then, when your friends forward to their
other friends, if they aren’t using the same feature, all those
email addresses are being shared with all of those people, and
it grows from there. This really violates your friends and
family’s privacy.
